A Cat Stencil Fur Purrrfect Artwork!
You must be a cat lover! Then I know you’ll be purring for these free cat stencil patterns. There are several with some accessories and even a project idea!
Cats are endlessly fascinating creatures that have occupied a special place in the lives of man for thousands of years. They have been worshipped and feared, loved and loathed - but never ignored. For the sheer love of cats, here are several
free stencils to print,
a cool project idea plus loads of felines!
If you love cats there’s nothing like flaunting it! This little t-shirt was so easy to do with the free stencil below. Actually it was an old T that I was just about to get rid of when I thought that a black cat stencil would be perfect to bring it a few more lives. The Black Cat Stencil not only has the artistic feline but also has the words “La Chat Noir!.” Read on for creative ideas about working with paper stencils and some tips for working with the lettering on this project. You can prepare these
free stencils
for long term use. Just cover the top of the paper with a clear protective coating like clear shelf liner before you cut out the openings. After painting you can wipe it off with a damp rag and store in a book to keep it flat. If you don’t have any clear shelf liner and need to get started now (I know how it is - I’m pretty impatient when I get my mind set to do something) use strips of clear packing tape making sure that each row slightly overlaps the last so that the entire page is protected. By the way I like to do just the top of the page and not the bottom. A slick coating on the bottom encourages paint to seep under and blur your painting.
This cat stencil collection came about over the years while I was making things for myself or for friends who are also cat lovers. I’ve used them on tote bags, framed art, furniture, scrapbooks and most of all I like to use them for gift bookmarks (they are a requested item now!)Alright since I mentioned bookmarks I have to tell you my neatest gift trick. Paint your cat stencils on a thick piece of paper. You can use the one that best reflects the cats personality or length of hair with the “I Luv My” text or paw print - just mix it all up. Write the cat’s name and some other personal sentiments. Then cut it out in the shape of a book mark and laminate with a strip of clear packing tape on each side. Trim it out and you’re done. You could even trim it with some of those cute craft scissors that have the scalloped edge. They are so cute and my friends love them. I hang them from gift bags instead of ribbons. Just use a hole punch tool at the top and wrap your ribbon through (a nice tassel is a great touch too!). Another benefit of working with paper stencils is that you have the option to use only part of a pattern. Let’s say that you wanted to use just one cat stencil and a paw. Then just cut out the parts you want!
Finally, here’s the cat stencil used in the t-shirt above. It’s purrfect for the feline artsy ideas you may have. She came from our
Cool Stencils
collection but I added “La Chat Noir” to this one because I designed it this way for the t-shirt. Check out
How To Garment Stenciling
for more information about stenciling on t-shirts and other fabrics. Because it’s a stencil the text has those bridges that separate pieces of each letter. After you’ve finished painting the stencil and removed it, take a very thin brush and connect the parts of each letter. You can also connect the letters to give it a hand written script look. You can adjust the size of this cat stencil to fit your project area. When you print just check the print settings box that appears and see if you can adjust the size there (it may want a percentage). If not take the print to a copy machine and enlarge or reduce. It's that easy and you can’t do that with a plastic stencil. By the way, when I say "paper stencils" I mean all the
